York's History - The Old Town Guided Tour Screenshot Gallery
The pictures on this page were taken from the 360 degree panoramic photos used in this CD-ROM. These simple little stills show the level of detail you will enjoy in our "York's History - The Old Town Guided Tour". Remember, what you see here is a tiny part of each scene and that there are far more scenes than the few shown below. This page acts as a screenshot tour rather than the glorious virtual tour which will be your guide around York.
Visit our "York's History - The Old Town Guided Tour" page to experience the real thing!
Our tour starts at York Station but very soon we are entering the Old Town through the famous Micklegate Bar.
We head across the River Ouse and on to King's Staith.
Eventually we come to one of York's most famous buildings - Clifford's Tower. We learn about the history of the Tower and York Castle, including the terrible anti-semitic riot during the middle ages.
We pass each of the buildings around the 'Eye of York' and learn about the fabulous York Castle Museum and its recreated streets.
Eventually we come to the charismatic Shambles - the most famous historic street in York.
We learn about the history of the Shambles, including the story of Margaret Clitherow.
Monk Bar is another of the famous gates around the walls of York.
The pretty little houses of Lady Row in Goodramgate provide us with yet more evidence of York's history.
We pass the National Trust building on our way to York Minster.
We couldn't include any perfeect images of York Minster in this still image tour because the ones we have fill the entire screen! Check out our York Minster panoramic view on our home page virtual tour - it is the third scene in the little demonstration virtual tour which can be seen in the upper right corner of our home page. We learn about the Roman emperor Constantine and his links to York.
Bootham Bar is one of the most famous sights in York.
Our tour passes Lendal Tower as we cross Lendal Bridge over the River Ouse on the way back to York Station and the end of our mammoth virtual tour around York.
