The paddle steamer Waverley is one of the most charismatic examples of Scotland's maritime past. Still in service today as the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, this historic ship is a regular visitor to many of the ports around the UK.
.
Based in Glasgow, near to her Clydeside birthplace, the Waverley is a great example of the shipbuilding tradition of this great city. Many paddle steamers worked on the Clyde river and this sole survivor provides a nostalgic link to the past. Our Waverley Virtual Tour attempts to bring back a little of this form of transport - ideally encouraging you to experience the real thing one day! Links on the CD-ROM will let you check the Waverley's tour routes, travel schedule and also buy tickets straight from Waverley Excursions.
.

The Waverley Virtual Tour takes you around the upper decks of the steamer before delving down into the public rooms and the engine room. Sound effects recorded on location in the Waverley engine rooms and above deck areas give enthusiasts the very best memento of this wonderful ship - the only things we couldn't bring you are the heat and the smell of the engines at work! (In fact, we were so aware of the popularity of the engines that we have an uninterrupted video clip of the engines at work - with no voice overs!)
.
The Waverley Virtual Tour, made in co-operation with Waverley Excursions and the approval of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society, lets you explore areas of the ship which are out of bounds to the general public, such as parts of the engine room, the boiler room and the bridge.
.
As well as two distinct virtual tours around the Waverley, this CD also charts the history of this veteran of the river Clyde and there is a special feature on the recent refit.
