Edinburgh's Water of Leith may not be as famous as London's Thames or Newcastles' Tyne rivers but it shares an equally fascinating history. The Water of Leith is now a popular place for people to stroll and relax amidst some of the most picturesque scenery available in Edinburgh. This virtual tour captures some of these stunning scenes and explains some of the fascinating history behind one of Edinburgh's most scenic locations.
Features
Water of Leith Tour 1
Balerno to Slateford
Our tour starts at the beginning of the Water of Leith walkway next to Balerno High School. We follow the river down to Colinton, passing numerous relics of the Water of Leith's industrial pass. We stop to admire the weir in Colinton Dell before heading on to Slateford and the Water of Leith visitor centre.
Water of Leith Tour 2
Slateford to Stockbridge
The Visitor Centre is positioned next to two stunning viaducts and we learn about why they were built as we pass underneath them. After a short while we come out past Murrayfield Rugby Stadium, cross over the busy road at Roseburn and then rejoin the river for one of the prettiest stretches of the Water of Leith walkway.
Water of Leith Tour 3
Stockbridge to Leith
Our final tour takes in the suburb of Canonmills before we finish at the Port of Leith.
