The Holy Island of Lindisfarne Interactive Guided Tour

Our Tours > Out Soon

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne!
Due late 2009

Lindisfarne almost demands that you don't rush but this is an island where your visit is almost always dictated by tide times. Our virtual tour explores the history of the island for you, leaving you to sit back and relax on the beaches, watch the wildlife or walk around the Castle or Priory.

Before we started work on this tour we contacted the
Holy Island Village Hall Renovation Fund and have worked in co-operation with them. Three pounds from each sale will go to their organisation and will go towards building a new village hall for the island community.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne Tour 1
Holy Island Village

Our first tour takes us around 'Holy Island Village' - a bit of a misnomer as the village itself has no specific name! This tour is a comprehensive exploration of this charming village and takes us around more than 25 full screen panoramic scenes. We discover some of Lindisfarne's religious past and present. As we walk around the harbour and the Ouse we will learn how Holy Island's fortunes have changed over the centuries.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne Tour 2
Market Place to the Heugh

In our next tour we will take a walk from the village Market Place to the Heugh. We visit St Mary's Churchyard and get a chance to see the iconic statue of St Aidan before passing the dramatic gateway to Lindisfarne Priory. Thanks to the generosity of Brother Damian of St Mary's Church we get a chance to explore this historic parish church before heading on out to St Cuthbert's Isle before the tide comes in. After experiencing a bit of peace and tranquillity we move on up the Heugh where get a great view of Lindisfarne Priory before going on to explore Osborne's Fort at the end of our second guided tour.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne Tour 3
Around Holy Island

Our third and final guided tour on Lindisfarne takes us out and around a large chunk of the island. This part of Holy Island can often be missed by day trippers pushed for time because of the tides and we hope it encourages people to make the relatively short hike along the old industrial waggonway to the beaches at the far side. This tour takes you along to Lindisfarne Castle, perched somewhat precariously on Beblow Crag, past the Lime Kilns and the bridge for the waggonway and onto the pathway around the coast. This takes us right out to the white beacon at Emmanuel Head and to the pristine and usually deserted beach at Sandon Bay. We head back to the village along Straight Lonnen.
