City of York : A Virtual Visit
The city of York is one of the prettiest cities in England and makes a perfect setting for a virtual tour. Many traces of York’s Roman, Viking and Medieval past can still be seen to this very day. From the Shambles to Clifford’s Tower stories from the past abound.
Many tourists visit York each year and many of them are keen to learn more about this historic city – the northern base in England for both Emperors and Kings. This virtual tour cd-rom will take you around the narrow winding streets and will let you know the origins behind many of them as well as, in some cases, events which took place there.
The City of York Virtual Tour comprises of three large tours around the heart of York. These tours are as follows:
1/ The Station to Clifford's Tower - we start our virtual tour of York from where many of York's many tourists do - the famous York Station. We travel through the famous Micklegate Bar (one of York's medieval gateways) and down Micklegate to the Ouse Bridge. After walking along King's Staith we end up at Clifford's Tower.

2/ Our virtual tour of York continues past the York Castle area, Fairfax House, the Coppergate (passing the world famous Jorvik Viking exhibition) before coming to the charismatic Shambles. Our virtual tour exlplores each of the historic streets on this journey and spends time looking at the historic buildings as we go. We find ourselves at Goodramgate - home to some of York's oldest buildings - at the end of this stretch of our York virtual tour.
3/ We continue along Goodramgate to Monk Bar. From here we double back and pass the Minster area - home to York Minster and many other historic buildings. Our virtual tour then takes us down the Stonegate and across St Helen's Square on our way to Lendal Bridge and back to the Station.

Every street we walk along has a story and most of the important buildings are explained.
